I broke down and made Devil May Look on in Horror. It's an official toy comic blog now, because I have two of them! ...Yes, anyway. Most of you are probably already familiar with Certainly All Half-Devils are Cat People. Certainly. And now there's Origin of the Mysterious Couch. (Dante's alternate first panel response was, "It looks like someone hot glued vinyl to a giant tissue box!" which was just too obvious.) I'm amazed that Nero can manage to look so shocked so easily. This does not bode well for him. Once all of the introductions are out of the way, I'm sure something interesting might happen sometime. If you're going to criticise my lighting, just fuck right off. *grin* It's a long story but the lamp is fine. Now. Ahem. It becomes clear that I'll need to snag that Barbie Dream House, I guess.
And now, links to things I didn't pollute. Shat-Canned Legends: Episode 1 - MOTHER 3 / EarthBound 64 - Part 1 is incredibly interesting and I can't wait for the second part to come out. Finally someone manages to piece together the little bits of rumored information--and includes sources. Fascinating and absolutely heartbreaking to know how far the project got before it was canceled. But if the beta for Twelve Tales still exists (and it does, and once again the online community was too fucking stupid to get together and buy it so it wouldn't disappear into a private collector's stash), then I firmly believe the unfinished Earthbound 64 is still somewhere... But then I'll just start talking about how Ura-Zelda is not fucking Master Quest and confuse people ending in something like "You don't understand! I was there as it was all happening! And get off my lawn!" ...Moving on.
Wipeout recreated with an RC car and lots of cardboard. How's that for a descriptive title? I think he's onto something here.
In-Depth: No Female Heroes At Activision?, or, "Why Focus Testing is Fucking Stupid". I'm always at odds with linking to Leigh Alexander pieces. On one hand, I like the different perspective, she is very capable of expressing herself and her articles are always thought-provoking. On the other hand... she's always such a girl. *grin* That's good in this case, though. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS SPARKLY, DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS. My faith in humanity was burned to ashes long ago, but some of you still have hope. Do not crush it under the weight of the stupid.
Fumito Ueda is showing "something" at TGS. Please be Last Guardian, please be Last Guardian. If Versus does indeed show up as well... well, I'll be extremely happy. I already pre-ordered them both months ago, ready and willing for the long wait. *grin* Way to always jump the gun, Amazon.
Raggedy play is a moment's meditation on the importance of being drawn into a game enough to care about what you're doing. There are a few games that do this for me every single time I'm playing, when I catch myself thinking, "Come on, [hero], you have to pull through to save [what/whoever]." Those are the most satisfying experiences.
And finally, the intriguing The science fiction explanation of why gay people must be allowed to marry. "The brilliance of personhood as a foundation for rights is that it exists independent of biology, even of physical substrate. You already know about personhood because you've seen it in your favorite movies. The Iron Giant, District 9, Blade Runner, A.L.F., E.T., Monsters Inc. and Ratatouille are about personhood. The eponymous hero of The Iron Giant demonstrates his personhood by willfully not being a gun and saving the day; Remy does so less on a smaller scale but no less movingly in Ratatouille by cooking a gourmet meal that triggers a Proustian flashback in Paris' toughest food critic. Personhood is what you discover when you stop trying to figure out what makes humans human and instead try to understand how we recognize another sentient mind. A mind imbued with rights."
