I live, I live. In the middle of three projects, now. Well, right now I'm taking a break because working with wire and beads for three days straight is fucking stupid takes a bit to recover from. And no, nothing's done yet. Of course. Do only one thing from start to finish? What fool idea is this? Yeah, this... one thing... it'll be good. At least I know that. Well, hopefully the other two will be good too, obviously.
Now I have a sharply-dressed demon to watch over my tea. And before you ask, he's a bootleg. Damn fine for a $10-ish bootleg. Not that I condone bootlegs, but... I bought one, so there goes that. I swear, though, bootleg figures are fascinating things. Even the really shit ones. Possibly especially the really shitty ones. Maybe it's a bit like awful pirated games. Anyway, I look forward to comparing him with the real thing.
But enough about me being an achy tired idiot. Onto the links! I've crossed paths with Daniel Floyd many times over the years, ever since he was "just" SephFire, the remixer. Then he started doing little animated lectures on video games, and I was so happy with what I saw. Including his animation reels. It makes me very happy to see that he's now got a weekly gig on The Escapist... and seems to have caught the eye of Pixar. Good show. HOLD ON WITH BOTH HANDS. DISNEY HASN'T FUCKED THEM UP YET. THERE IS HOPE. Ahem.
You whipper snappers can't appreciate the game graphics you have now, that's a fact. *grin* Why, "back in the day" we had to rely on color cycling. And... okay, a lot of it was shit, but Mark J. Ferrari's stuff was incredible--and it still is. Go see.
I honestly think Maps is looking to start a fight. At first glimpse, it's a love poem to the JRPG--but to do more than glance finds it somewhat attacking the JRPG for not being "grown up enough" for lack of a better phrase. It's puzzling to me, particularly at the end. Just because you're in your 30's or 40's you need someone to make games specifically for you? Okay, well... make them, stop bitching, and leave me and my game preferences the hell alone. Ahem. It's not that I don't understand moving on from the genre just because of who you are. It's this "make games for older people" that kind of seems... odd, I guess? Hard to explain why it just seems weird. There are plenty of levels of meaning and, despite hating the word, "maturity" available if you just look for it--even in some JRPGs! Le gasp! Even more weird, games might be about having fun! Holy shit, I know! Oh well. You know how I feel about "grown ups". Shut up and make my Soylent Green.
I love urban legends. But creepy urban legends that have to do with video games? Even better. The article here is fine, yeah--but the comments are delicious. If you're easily creeped out, skip this link.
And for fun and pain, the worst and yet somehow the "best" Poison cosplay ever.
I will so totally get back to everyone soon. No, really.
